Your Dream World and the Real World are One and the Same
November 19, 2009Many people have brought up different thoughts about dreams and reality and how they are connected, or in some cases how they aren’t connected at all. If you were to ask me however, there is only one world, the real world, and dreams are apart of the real world and not a separate entity entirely. That’s not to say that there isn’t another wonderland somewhere far off in god knows where, but dreams are a part of reality, albeit a rather quirky part of reality.
Have you ever had a nightmare where you fell from something? Its a fact that most people have, but the more interesting thing is that most people physically experience the sensation of falling. Dreams are something limited to your mind, but the thing that fascinates me is that before waking up from a nightmare in which there is something involving falling, one actually feels like he or she is falling.
But the most interesting thing about dreams is that you don’t remember almost any of them which is almost common knowledge. Everyone at some point has attemptedĀ to recollect the humorous events of what happened in there own dream, but they fail to clearly remember it, and for some reason you just cant explain, as time goes by, you forget more and more of the dream. Well if you forget the majority of your dreams, then isn’t it possible that your living an entire other life as someone else but your just forgetting it? And there’s an interesting flip sideĀ to that story, maybe the other you in the dream world dreams about being you and he forgets those dreams as well. As an interesting aside, it is a scientific fact that the thoughts in your subconscious often lead to what you dream about. If that’s true, then dreaming and reality are not two different worlds, but worlds that go hand in hand, a world within a world.
So my questions to you are do you think that dreams are another world entirely or that they are just a part of the real world? and would you believe it to be possible that you are living another life that you just don’t remember or is that simply too crazy of an idea for you to believe?
Rivu has a very good point. There have been many times where I have fallen off my bike or a ledge in my dreams and I had rolled off my bed in real life. Our dreams and reality are connected to an extent. The part about our dream world counter part having a life and having dreams about us may be a bit of a stretch but it is a very intriguing point. Most of society would disagree with that point but I see some interesting reasoning in it. How are we supposed to know if there isn’t an alternate universe that is similar to ours? It is a crazy idea but we are not able to prove it one way or another.
I agree that our dreams must somehow, to some extent, be connected to our lives in reality. Could we really be leading a different life in our dreams and simply not remember it clearly? Sure, it’s possible. I’ve always found dreams interesting; it seems like they can truly be about pretty much anything. However, if that’s the case, then how do dreams tell us something about our lives in reality, as many people say they do? In Colton’s friend’s dream, was the fly representative of something, was it there because in reality people were drawing on his face and the connection was made between dream world and real world, or was it just there because for some weird reason he was thinking about flies in the back of his mind when he went to sleep? How can we really tell? And, I’m also wondering why we forget some dreams, but remember others. I still remember a few certain dreams (mostly nightmares) pretty clearly from when I was in elementary school. How is that possible? Maybe dreams are kind of like an alternate reality of sorts, and we remember nightmares or dreams that, if they were real, would be like important events that one would remember for the rest of their life, because they are important to our other selves. Maybe we forget the dreams that would be “normal” in that other world, just like we forget all the specific details of what happens on a daily basis if it isn’t strange or important, but we remember the big ones, and they stick with us in our world, and, sometimes, in the dream world as well in the form of a recurring dream. I think your statement about dreams going hand in hand with reality like “a world within a world” is spot-on.
Well I think that dreams are apart of this world. Our subconscious is what allows us to dream. It was weird the other day because when I was putting a prank on my friend and writing on his face, he kept scratching his face. Then later when he woke up, he told us how he was dreaming that a big fly just kept landing on his face. Because of this, I think that what is happening to you when you are asleep can adjust what is happening during your dream. Like on time when I was dreaming, I was under water and I couldn’t breathe and when I woke up I was holding my breath. Because of these two things, I believe that these two worlds are connected and one can affect the other.
I would say that dreams are in an another world, but that world is in the brain. I believe that there is some kind of connection between dreams and the perception of reality, I’m not an expert on the brain or the mind and this is simply my opinion. The human mind is a strange thing and dreams are apart of that strange thing, dreams are like a reality away from reality mostly seen in a human’s sleep. It is true many people forget this reality away from reality when they wake up, so a person could live a whole different life and not remember it. Also almost anything is possible in a dream, Just yesterday I dreamed about the alien reptiles from Land of the Lost and Call of Duty, Dreams are not apart of the real world, but something produced by our imagination in our sleep. Since dreams can be just about anything, almost anything is possible in a dream.
Dreams are something a lot of us think about, but we don’t really think of why we dream the things we dream. I agree that dreams are connected to our lives in the real world. What we do or feel daily might show up in our dreams some time later. Another question people don’t think about is,why do dreams feel so real? It really is like a whole different world. I believe that in dreams we live a life of our emotions. If we have fear we have nightmares. If we are happy we have pleasant dreams. It is hard for us to understand dreams because they don’t fit into reality. It is hard for us to remember things that couldn’t happen in real life.
